From our Chair - Carol Wilkinson
For the last 10 years I was the proprietor of the Cubby Hole, the only independent art and craft outlet in Crewe.
Over the years I had been organising, and involved in, many community activities; so Dawn Clarke manager of a local Area Partnership (LAP) for Cheshire East council suggested that I should develop a community group.
Neil Brookfield came up with the name Creative Crewe.
Mark Sheeky designed the artwork for advertising and this became our event branding.
A group of individuals formed a committee to plan, organise and develop creative events in town.
I also decided to become an outlet for the sale of artwork and handicrafts produced by local people rather than buying in giftware. These items are unique and there wasn't another venue like this in Crewe.
Art and creativity brings together like minded people sharing ideas and community spirit.
It contributes to health and wellbeing both physically and psychologically and it gives the individual a sense of purpose and achievement.
We are now heading into our 3rd year and we want to thank everyone for their support so far. We could never hope to have accomplished what we have and could not have done so without the hard work of our committee and the help of many.
2016 hasn't been the best of years for me personally but with regard to Creative Crewe it has shown us they way ahead. I want to take our ethos out in the community and to help achieve this I decided to close my shop and put more emphasis on getting our work out to more people.
We have taken "The Cubby Hole on Tour". We now have regular craft get togethers in places like Beechmere, St Barnabas, What's happening on North Street.
See the calendar for regular updates on events and our blog for reports on the many activities we are involved with.
